Flattening the Covid-19 curve…

Contrary to what you may be thinking, I’m not talking about the rate of coronavirus infections; I’m referring to flattening your belly ;-). A lot of people resort to beer and snacks when they’re worried or stressed, and an almost inevitable result of weeks of confinement, no exercise and lots of comfort food or drinks is a BIG BEER BELLY, as my friend Andrej kindly pointed out. So, Andrej, this post is dedicated to you.

There are many exercises for strengthening and toning your core muscles. I will illustrate one in the accompanying video and will hopefully record some more to post in the not-too-distant future.

You need to be careful with your lower back area, as a lot of abdominal exercises can put excessive strain on your lower back, so always listen to your body, never push yourself to the limit and stop immediately if you feel any pain at all.

In this video, you’ll see me doing leg lifts. It’s important to keep your lower back stuck to the floor, or as close the floor as possible. Don’t let it lift and arch, as you’ll end up damaging the area. If you find it difficult to do that while lowering your legs, then either don’t go all the way down to the floor or place a support under your tailbone. This can be your hands, or a cushion.

After warming up your abs with these exercises (that incidentally are also good for the legs), I’ll demonstrate Navasana (boat pose).

And please remember, the ONLY way to really flatten the curve (the real one) is by staying indoors, so please #stayhome #staysafe
