The big 50

Hi folks

I owe you a post on how to do sarvangasana (shoulder stand) without props, but you'll have to wait a little longer for that as the weather has turned and my indoor lighting is dreadful (keep meaning to get some better lighting but it hasn't happened yet).

As some of you know, I turned 50 on the 1st of March. My intention was to publish a post on or around that date, reflecting on life in general and giving thanks for all the blessings I have received in these fifty years of life, but what with the Russia-Ukraine war having started just a few days earlier, it seemed inappropriate.

I don't want to get political, so I will refrain from commenting on the politics behind this war, but my heart goes out to all those affected - on both sides. Obviously my heart bleeds for the Ukrainians who have been invaded, but I can't help thinking about the thousands of Russians who do not want this war and have been arrested or beaten for protesting. Any kind of war is horrendous and I can only pray and hope that it ends as quickly as possible. My heartfelt sympathy to all those suffering at this time. I invite you all to dedicate your meditation practice to peace in the world.

I'd like to give thanks for all the blessings I have received. I feel so lucky to have grown up in a loving family, to have made long-lasting friendships, to have had the chance to study and forge a solid career, to have been born in a part of the world where women are not systematically treated as second-class citizens, and to have discovered yoga and meditation - the tools that help me get by when things get too stressful. I give thanks for the reasonably good health that I have, for my lovely husband, and for still having my mother around even though she's almost 94 and is sometimes difficult to look after.

And I give thanks to you, my faithful followers, who are still logging onto my blog/vlog from time to time, even though I have thoroughly neglected you and don't post nearly as frequently as I would like to.

Thank you for your patience and for your interest.
